Freedom 55. On Sunday it was my 55th birthday. Fifty-five candles on the cake. it was a big cake. We had to wear sunglasses when all the candles were lite. It took me five gos to blow them all out. The big 55. Time to get out the rocking chair and give it a lick of paint. One day I'll be rocking away wrapped in my favourite fleecy blanket with a cup of cocoa. But not today. No, today it was marathon # 241, back into Calgary.

The weather is still grinding out the -20C temps, but I hear, through the grape vine, that a chinook is coming. Sooner the better. I arrived at Shouldice pool at 8.00am and 1 1/2 hours later I was at the Good Earth cafe. Lawyers Don and Gord met me with Don's brother-in-law Grady. We headed east and noticed the huge build up of ice on the Bow. The shapes are amazing, where the water pressure forces the ice up vertically. I had an appointment at 1.30pm in Cochrane, so I said goodbye to the guys and retraced my steps to Shouldice. At the appointed time I met Barry, owner of Spray Lakes Sawmills. Barry has done a tremendous amount for the Cochrane community and he agreed to donate $2,500 to Right To Play. Many thanks.

I arrived home at 2.30pm and I had only one thing was on my mind: Senior discounts. Below are some of the best deals I could find for the over 55 gang:

  • Arby's: 10% discounts at participating locations.
  • Belk's: First Tuesday of the month 15% discount.
  • Best Western: At least 10% off regular room rates.
  • McDonalds: Everyday discounted senior coffee.
  • Taco Bell: Free drinks for seniors at participating locations.

It doesn't get any better than this!
