Six and a half years ago, I arrived in Cochrane, Alberta. I had driven across country from Sudbury, Ontario and arrived on a freezing February day. On the Saturday before leaving, I had my last run with the Sudbury Rocks Running Club. Now I was in Cochrane, one of the first things I did was to see if they had a club. Yes, and they had a Saturday run. Like many clubs all over the world we head out in sun, rain, snow and whatever else the weather gods throw at us. Today it was a little nippy at -1C, but not too bad. We always meet at Guy's bakery and make a decision on the spot as to our route.

The plan was to do an out and back to Wine Glass ranch. I ran with Runner John but soon realised this was a mistake. I had run with John before and had been injuried. Then a couple months ago I went for coffee with John and as I went to sit down I pulled a muscle in my back. Today, I went off a little too fast and felt my piriformus muscle start to flare up. No more running with John. A couple of Advil helped but I just didn't have any zip. The club was manning a booth at a community show in the Ranche House, to attract new runners. So, I decided to drop by and say hi. Then I headed home. Over the years many runners have left and new ones joined. If you'd like to give it a go then drop by Guy's bakery at 8.30am on a Saturday, there's always good coffee and sausage rolls.

Ice Cream Quest 47

The challenge is to try all 47 flavours at Mackay's ice cream store before midnight December 31st.

Today's flavour #42: Watermelon Lime Cooler

Quote of the Day

"A person's life purpose is nothing more than to rediscover, through the detours of art, or love, or passionate work, those one or two images in the presence of which his heart first opened."

Albert Camus
