I received an email congratulating me on my Boston qualifying run in Victoria and asking me what my training schedule was for this year. It's very simple really:

  • No interval training
  • No tempo runs
  • No hill repeats
  • 187 long slow runs. Works for me.

Today, the plan was to go to West springs School in Calgary and start running. However I got lost again and this time I had a map. West Springs School is brand new as are the communities, shops and streets in this part of Calgary. I thought I had found the school but when I went in it said "St. Joan of Arc School". Luckily I met Teacher Lisa and she pointed me in the right direction. I explained what I was doing and she said the school might be interested in having me run there. All's well that ends well.

When I finally did arrive at West springs School, I got off to a fast start. At 9.00am I went into the gym and I chatted with the kids. The school goes from Kindergarten to grade 5 and has 240 students. I found a 800m loop and soon had 25 laps under my belt. One grade 3 girl, Ava, was relentless. At every opportunity she was out running with me. I called her Ava "The Machine', which she seemed to like.

I would like to mention three students in particular. Grade 3er Saime gave me $1.00, grade 2er Jade gave me 25c and grade 1er Ethan gave me 11c. They all said that they wanted to help the Right To Play children. Now these kids have "the right stuff"!

Quote of the Day

"Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle for where we're going. There's something ahead worth fighting for."
