Food Blogger Interview: Kate of ihearteating

kate-ihearteating-pictureKate of i heart eating has a goal to test and publish fun, easy family-friendly recipes for her food blog. We interview her to learn her secrets to taking great food photos and honing her skills to become a better cook and a better blogger.

Who is your foodie hero and how do they inspire you?

I have a few foodie heroes. Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery because of her baking-as-science approach and because of her choice to change careers. Rachael Ray because she has built a mini empire in the food world without a culinary degree, and she makes her recipes accessible. There are also a lot of amazing bloggers out there who do incredible things every week on their blogs, and that's pretty difficult to keep up week-in and week-out.

What's the best food photography tip you've learned in the past year?

Use natural lighting!! It has made SUCH a difference in my pictures. Before, I was trying to use my camera's flash, and I usually ended up with poorly lit food that looked fairly unappetizing. Natural light brings out the true colors in the food and keeps it looking good.

How many cookbooks do you own and which do you reach for most often?

I own over 100 cookbooks. I've lost count at this point. The cookbook that I reach for most often (lately) is The Flavor Bible.

My little digital thermometer. I was a terrible judge of water temperature, and I killed my yeast by using water that was way too hot. Since I bake a lot of bread, I use it all the time, and it keeps me from ending up with bread that doesn't rise.

What keywords or cooking types would you like to be best known for?

Baking! It's so much more fun for me to make a batch of cookies than to make dinner.

Thanks again to Kate of i heart eating for sharing your story!
